The Community Participation for health and Development (CPHD) is a non- government organization which aims at the overall improvement of health and environmental development through community participation. The main objective of the organization is to supplement and strengthen health related programmes in the country. In Bangladesh, non- government organizations have been encouraged to complement the government efforts to improve the status of overall health conditions of the people through health and environmental development process of the country. As a result significant improvements can be seen in the major health indicators. Much work yet remains to be done in respect of strengthening and improving the range of health services at all levels of health system particularly in respect of prevention and control of communicable diseases like Tuberculosis, Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARTI), HIV/AIDS and sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) etc. EMERGENCE OF CPHD: Keeping the above in view, the community Participation for Health and Development (CPHD) has been launched as a registered non- governmental organization to provide various services in health sector. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF CPHD: In order to address the overall health problems of the country as well as to provide remedial measures to these problems, CPHD is committed to undertake the following programmes: CARE, TREATMENT AND COUNSELLING IN RESPECT OF THE FOLLOWING DISEASES: TUBERCULOSIS : It is a major public health problem and the 2nd highest killer disease in Bangladesh. But experience shows that the rate of detection of TB cases in far below the target in the urban areas. The reason for this low detection rate of cases may be attributed to the fact that the cases dealt with by the private practitioners often remain unaccounted and unregistered. CPHD plans to expand the method of combating TB by a joint collaboration between the private practitioners and the National TB programme (NTP) to all urban areas of the country and also take programmes for advocacy and public awareness. HIV/AIDS, STDS, RTI AND DRUG ABUSE: The geographical location of Bangladesh has made the country vulnerable to HIV/ AIDS due to huge number of HIV/AIDS cases in the neighboring countries. Besides, the population at large faces a great threat of TB breakdown in an epidemic form by the introduction of HIV infection in the vulnerable groups. STDs, RTI and Drug Abuse also pose threat to the community. CPHD is designed to create public awareness of all ages specially amongst young men and women about the deadly consequences of the aforesaid diseases. ACUTE RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTION (ARTI) : Considerable number of infants and young children die of ARTI and pneumonia every year in Bangladesh. This episode is preventable and curable provide early detection and treatment could be arranged. CPHD will take up programmes to address to these problems. MALNUTRITION AND ENVIRONMENTAL DISEASES : CPHD will take the following action programmes to deal with malnutrition and environmental diseases.
SURVEY, STUDY, RESEARCH AND TRAINING ON HEALTH ISSUES: CPHD has a pool of core-experts, professionals and field workers to support and undertake the following works, studies, implementation of contract services, survey, monitoring and evaluation of health sector programmes:
